Some of us decided to take a different turn in life. We made a decision to put aside our careers to be full time homemakers, so that we can devote our time to our children and family. Their maybe some of us for whatever reason or another, who chose to withdraw from college and remain with our employer for several years, due to getting a reasonable salary, establishing good friendships , great hours, or maybe the convenience of the jobs location. My question is have we identified our purpose for living? Are we trying to figure out our God given talents or skills, so that we can fulfill our dreams and reach a level of success that would bring meaning to our lives? At this moment, take a look at yourself in the mirror, and if your satisfied with where you are today, and couldn't see yourself doing anything else then what you're doing now, then that's wonderful. It means that you've reached a plateau in your life, where you've found a sense of comfort, pleasure and inner peace. Now on the other hand, if you're constantly vacillating between career or life choices, and have been feeling a sense of void, as if there's something missing or incomplete, then you need to reexamine your life and ponder about what's holding you back from being successful. Success starts in the mind. If you have positive thoughts, then you become determined, motivated, confident, and persistent in seeing that your goals are accomplished. Success is bringing our dreams into existence and seeing them unfold. It is pinpointing a place in our lives where we want to be, establishing a plan of action as you work towards achieving that goal, as well as having the courage to remain optimistic in the midst of trials and tribulations. Most importantly, it is never embracing the thought of failure. We were all born without the concept of failure. How did you learn to walk? The first time you tried to walk, you immediately fell. You didn't know you couldn't succeed, so you tried again. Hundreds of times you repeated this process, until finally you walked.
We are all want to have a successful life, and at times we may feel that we don't have the time or the effort to go after our dreams. So we live our life day to day. Basically just going through the same rituals, and never looking ahead at the possibilities for a lifestyle change. There are some of us who want to enter college, open up a business, change careers, or apply for a managerial position at a major corporation. It is usually fear that keeps us from moving forward. We are afraid to come out of our comfort zone, and explore the endless opportunities that are out there. There are a few basic steps you need to consider when moving towards a life change that can lead you to being successful: First, you need to put all your thoughts in a journal . Start writing down all the things you enjoy doing, as well as the things that you consider are your strengths. I always say that if you find yourself talking or daydreaming about that one thing, which you always wanted to do, but for years gave yourself excuses of why you didn't do it, then maybe that's want you ought to be pursuing. Research you career goal. Figure out what it entails, and read as much as you can before you jump into anything. Talk to someone who's actually in that specific field that interest you, and make an appointment to go observe what they're doing. Don't be ashamed to ask questions. If you're thinking about launching a new business, then go to your local university or library, and take a start- up business course, or attend a seminar on ways to get your business started. Set reasonable time frames in getting things accomplished. Everything in life takes time and patience. Even if it takes you 5 or 10 years to get to where you need to be, then don't let that discourage you. It's better to pace yourself, and get things done right, instead of trying to find short cuts and then having to learn the hard way from your mistakes. Visualize your dream: If you can see it, then you can achieve it. Visualizations are an important factor in developing a strong sense of self worth. By visualizing, you are creating positive experiences through your thoughts and feelings and by doing this you will begin to feel what it is you most deeply want out of life. Utilizing the natural powers of your mind, will open unlimited possibilities before you. You may also want to create visual images, by cutting out pictures or mementos that are relevant to your goals, and putting it on your night stand, refrigerator, or in an album, so that you can always look to them for encouragement. Take Action: Begin to take small steps in pursuing your goal. Don't allow yourself to feel overwhelmed by taking on more then what you can handle. As you finish each task, check it off in your journal, and then review your progress on a regular basis. Confide in a close family member or friend: We all want to feel that we're getting positive feedback or receiving a pat on the back from those so dear to us, for our quest to success. Most of us need to hear encouraging words from those around us. It helps us to remain focused, as well as feel confident about what we're doing. Say "NO" to Self-Doubt: The greatest obstacle for most people when trying to reach their ultimate goal is having self-doubt. Many of us have high hopes and aspirations, but we let self-doubt creep in and undermine our talents, abilities, and effectiveness. Some people believe that having a lack of education means that they cannot be successful. I do agree that it's important to have a college degree, but if you don't for whatever reason, that doesn't mean that you should put your dreams on hold. Anything you want in life, could be obtained as long as your willing to work extra hard in seeing that your dreams become a reality. Believe in You: It's so true that when you walk with confidence, and talk with authority, you attract people who are willing to listen to you. I'm not saying to speak as if you know it all, but have faith in what you're doing and believe that God will grant you all the desires of your heart. Believe that you are destined for Greatness, and worthy of true SUCCESS ! Remember this quote from the famous author, OG Mandino. "Failure will never overtake me, if my determination to succeed is strong enough". Editor/Founder
