As working moms, we sometimes forfeit time with ourselves. The one thing that we long for the most, never seems to be a reality- time . Of course, we tend to put those we love before us, never realizing we need to take care of ourselves before we can take care of them. Although taking on hectic schedules and managing everything from laundry to bottles are considered part of our duty as mothers and as working moms we do not have to lose the battle to Mother Nature. We can take back our lives and resume control over the things that tend to control us.

LaughingAs you begin this New Year with long resolutions to lose weight and to save more money and other traditional lists, why not add ways to help you better take control of your life. Yes, that means really making time for yourself, while continuing to make others happy or at least, satisfied.

Here are several tips to help all working moms take back the control they lost. Not only will this make you happier, you will be less frustrated when life's demands start calling you its way.

  1. Make Each Morning Your Best - Often in our busy lives, we tend not to have time throughout the day for relaxation of mind, body and most importantly, our souls. Although this may seem hectic at first, getting up an extra half hour earlier can definitely save you from the daily headaches that tend to bombard your schedule on a regular basis. After all, we tend to be the first ones waking up in our homes anyway, so why not take this time out just for us - a time when our spouse is snoring and the kids are in dreamland. This is a perfect time for a morning workout, yoga, Pilates, prayer and meditation and soft music while sipping orange juice on the patio. Just enough time to remind yourself that today will be your best.
  2. Imagine Your Beauty - Of course as a working mom, you tend to live on a budget. However, it is in times like these that even the best of us need some splurge time. Time to get that long desired facial, massage, pedicure or manicure. Besides, if we don't take care of us, who will? Beauty has its price, but loving yourself is a beauty that is priceless. Setting aside a small percentage of your income each pay period will eventually add up to a great treat at the end of the month. Now, once a month is definitely doable.
  3. He Needs Your Time Too - Now, it is no mystery that working moms can sometimes neglect their spouses on the affectionate level. Of course, cooking and keeping a clean house are important, but sometimes a little reminder that the sexy you still lives behind that crisp black suit, is enough to keep an old fire burning. Besides, you need that attention after a long day's work of "pleasing" your boss. So, set aside one day of the work week for just the two of you, and call it your date night. Find a babysitter, put the kids to bed early or find some family friendly movie to keep them occupied, while the two of you snuggle together in front of a candlelit floor picnic or a nice two hour outing at your favorite restaurant (one that does not have a kids menu). Try to be consistent and watch your marriage and your level of comfort move into a wonderful direction.

Of course, these few tips are only a preliminary view in getting you started to resuming control of your life, but the best part about it is that you are trying . It is not easy being a working mom. Sometimes it hurts to leave the kids with strangers all day, or you feel a little guilty about not having enough time to spend with the family. However, just always remember that you are not a superhero, and the small things you do with and for your loved ones are what really makes you a hero. Nothing is better than your family knowing that you love and care about them and that there is no one in the world that will ever love them more. Moms are special, and you can only have one.
